Namibia

Home to some of Africa's most amazing landscapes, Namibia has a lot to offer those willing to embark on a few road trips to see the true beauty of the country. With some of the highest sand dunes in the world at Sossusvlei, to the red sands of the desert, the unique Skeleton Coast that can be harsh and stunning all in one go, and the salt pans of the fabulous Etosha National Park, Namibia never fails to disappoint and that's before we even think about wildlife!

A safari in Etosha is quite a different experience to most game viewing in Africa thanks to the dry, flat salt pans that give rise to rich gatherings at the numerous waterholes, making it highly rewarding with great photographic opportunities. Damaraland also gives many unique experiences with the ability to track black rhinos and spot desert-adapted elephants, whilst the coast offers the opportunity to spot varied marine wildlife such as seal colonies, the rare Heaviside's dolphin and the Southern Right whale. The Caprivi Strip also deserves a mention, which easily compares well to the Okavango in Botswana, and as Namibia's wettest area it is home to many hippo, crocodile and buffalo, and it's far more accessible as a region both physically and in price, making a great option compared to it's expensive neighbour.

Best Time to Visit

One of the best things about Namibia in our opinion is that it is a great year round destination with an impressive 300+ days of sunshine a year. The weather is typically dry and pleasant, with the hot summer season running from November to April and slightly cooler winters from May to October. Rains are most likely between December and March but these are light compared to the standard rains in other African countries, although this can impact the game viewing in Etosha so if this is your focus then we recommend going between June and October - just beware of slightly higher rates at this time.
